Replace Centerboard Handle

Postby BaltJones » Tue Apr 29, 2025 10:50 am

I have a bent centerboard handle that I'm considering replacing. I've read another thread on the subject that suggests some of the handles have a round pin in the end, and others are square. It seems the best way to know which I have is to remove the current one.

Here's my question - what happens when I remove the handle? Is this a quick one-person operation, or do I need to support the centerboard and then line things back up when I go to re-install?

I'm sure it will be more clear once I actually remove the handle. I just want to avoid a situation where I remove the handle, the centerboard drops to the trailer, and I'm then trying to line up a 1/4" hole blind in the trunk to get everything back together.

Thanks you any help,

Brian

If you have your boat on the side, it's a one person thing, or can be. If you are supporting the CB from below, you may need a second person to adjust while you try to get the handle back in. Getting it out is easier, but the CB may settle into any supports you are using.
